How hard is it to be named the world’s most powerful musician? Not very hard if you’re Lady Gaga. This year, Gaga managed to land at #2 (behind her good friend Oprah) on Forbes’ annual “Celeb 100” list, which ranks power amongst celebrities based on several categories, like earnings, social network presence, and media dominance. Despite a hip injury, a cancelled tour, and a media blackout, Gaga effortlessly landed above other musicians such as Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Adele, Britney Spears, and Justin Bieber, to be named the most powerful amongst her peers. Of course all of is this is thanks to $80m in earnings, a massive social network following, and being the most famous person on the planet.
The Queen Monster would have earned even more had it not been for a hip injury that cut her Born This Way Ball Tour short. The tour grossed $168 million through January; had Gaga been able to finish the tour, she would have likely topped $200 million. Even so, her massive social media presence, including 38 million Twitter followers and 58 million Facebook fans, helps keep her near the top of our list. With a new album in the works, look for her to stay there.
If this is what Gaga can do while taking a break, we’re afraid to see what she’ll do once she decides to finally return.
