Why is it okay for Adele to slut-shame and body police skinny girls and pop stars who choose to run around half naked? Couldn’t you argue that the girl running around half naked in front of a million people is more comfortable with who she is than the girl who feels the need to place herself upon a pedestal because she wears turtle necks instead of low cut tops?
Adele is no Beth Ditto and she surely isn’t challenging anybody’s idea of what beauty is. I mean, she has no problem with magazines only shooting her from the waist up or making sure her hair is as high as the Heavens in order to make her face look slimmer. So really, how comfortable can she be? There are artists out there who don’t run around half naked simply because they don’t want to. I don’t get that from Adele, though. What I get from Adele’s constant bitching about her own weight and the weight of others is that she wishes she could run around half naked on stage, but can’t because she’s uncomfortable with how she looks. Being known as the “pretty-faced fat girl who can sing” obviously bothers Adele. But you know, maybe she wouldn’t be known as that if she didn’t constantly talk about her weight. If you’re so talented, let your voice do the talking, not your weight.
